Capital endowments

Each year, one or two research institutions are endowed with non-expendable capital with a view to generating sustainable resources. A maximum of one application by institution is permitted, either to endowments or to permanent chairs, not for both of them. 

The Fund works directly with the Scientific Board to examine requests from research institutions, and awards substantial sums to the best projects.

Eligible applicants are research institutes with a high level of excellence and international scope situated within one of the European Union member states or within one of the Fund's partner countries [1].

[1] wich are : Switzerland, Israel, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Turkey, Croatia, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Serbia, Albania, Montenegro and Singapore.

The FONDATION JEAN-JACQUES LAFFONT-Toulouse School of Economics

True to its commitments to supporting academic excellence and to providing high-quality scientific-structures the perennial resources for their development and independence.

The AXA Research Fund has awarded an endowment amounting to 3 million euros to The Fondation Jean-Jacques Laffont-Toulouse Sciences Economiques (TSE).

TSE accounts for more than 100 researchers associated with 3 laboratories : The GREMAQ ( Groupe de Recherche en Economie Mathématique et Quantitaitve), the LERNA ( Laboratoire d'Economie des Ressources Naturelles), the ARQADE (Atelier de Recherche Quantitative Appliquée au Développment Economique). It prepares more than 100 PhD students for high-level scientific-careers.

The following endowments are maintained by the AXA research fund but are funded by the AXA group.

The Paris School of Economics

The Paris School of Economics was set up in February 2007 with the aim at increasing the visibility of French economic research, and welcomes private financing (4 million euros of private funding for a total initial capital of 24 million). AXA has contributed one million euros of capital to this institution, which draws on the top Parisian research centers (in particular ENS, EHESS, ENPC, ENSAE, the Ecole Polytechnique and Paris 3, Paris 6 and Paris 9 Universities).

AXA's CEO, Henri de Castries, sits on the administrative council of the PSE in a "private partner" capacity.

The "Fondation du Risque"

This Non-profit foundation , has been created in partnership with Ecole Polytechnique, ENSAE, Paris Dauphine University and the Center for Actuarial Studies. Its missions are:

To create a French center of excellence in research and teaching, of an international standard, with a focus on risk of all kinds, through the study of scientific, statistical, economic, legal and social aspects.

To promote the rational appreciation of risk and its consequences, both positive and negative, and to encourage interdisciplinary exchanges between academics and professionals.

To contribute to the definition of policies for preventing and managing risk, both at microeconomic and macroeconomic level.

To develop education methods on risk, to increase the understanding of its mechanisms and to disseminate knowledge on the subject, with and for its partners and aimed at decision-makers in the public and private domain, as well as at the general public.

AXA sits on the foundation's supervisory board in its capacity as founder member.

AXA has funded TSE jointly with EXANE. The 2 companies have a common seat on the TSE's board of directors
