Applications eligible for funding in 2008 must fall within one of the four domains listed below:

  • Science
  • Technologies
  • Social sciences

Within one of these four domains, they must touch on issues raised by major transformations of the modern world and related risks.

By way of example, the AXA Research Fund proposes the following themes, which are not intended to be exhaustive:

Finance and economics

  • Measuring and assessing risk
  • Modeling the behavior of economic agents in the face of risks
  • Systemic financial risk
  • Economics of medical research

Science

  • Climate change: risks and related impacts
  • Longevity, long-term care (loss of autonomy) and physical therapy
  • Science and society: the sociology of modern research

Technologies

  • Network security
  • Quantic information and its impact on information systems
  • Modeling complex information systems

Social sciences

  • Social reactions to innovation
  • Social reactions to risk
  • Organizational adaptability (private and public)
